ABOUT THE BREED

Persians

The CFA considers Persians to be the number one breed in popularity and for good reasons too! Persian cats have sweet and gentle personalities. Because of their faithful nature, Persians make wonderful companions. They’re calm and docile, but ever so often they get a random jolt of energy and run around like little hooligans;) These cats have luxurious coats and big beautiful eyes. Their coats require special attention so it’s recommended to brush them daily to prevent matts. They’re a medium size cat breed and they reach adolescence at about two years of age. Persians come in a variety of colors. The CFA separates them into seven color divisions. One of those color divisions is the Himalayan cat.

Himalayans

Himalayan cats were derived by breeding Persian cats to Siamese cats. In doing this, the Siamese color point was combined with the Persian physique and tada! The Himalayan is one of the most popular of all Persians. They have the body and fluffiness of a Persian cat, yet they have the color points of the Siamese. And don’t forget those brilliant blue eyes! The Himalayan cat is categorized as a variety of the Persian. These cats are also known for their quiet disposition and easygoing nature.

Exotics

Exotics meet the Persian standard in every way, but have a special exception. They have short thick coats that are easy to maintain and won’t get matted. They require much less grooming than the long haired Persian and for this reason are sometimes referred to as a lazy man’s Persian. Exotic cats have affectionate personalities, are very friendly, and will play until they’re exhausted trying to catch their favorite toy. They are easy going and stay playful as adults so they’ll keep you entertained for years to come.

There are two types of Exotics: Longhair and Shorthair. Shorthair Exotics have a short hair coat. Longhair exotics look almost identical to a Persian/Himalayan. The difference here is that if one of the breeding parents is an Exotic, the kittens are automatically registered as Exotics as well.
